Because it's the start of a new school year.
Yesterday was the first "at school" day. Last friday was our first homeschool day.
And nothing says "Back to School" like home improvement projects. It's apparently what I do. Wait until the very last minute, cover the entire interior of my home in plastic and then stress about where in the world I put ALL OF OUR STUFF.
Seriously.
It's not that bad.
Last week we had our kitchen and living room repainted. It's SO pretty! The exterior also got spruced up and this week our dining room that is undergoing a transformation to another living room is being painted, our bedroom and bathroom as well as two areas outside the other bathrooms.
It sound like a lot, well, because it IS a alot. But it all needed some TLC!
In case you are interested, here is what we are doing in school this year:
Saxon Math 3 (same a last year)
Shurley Grammar 2 (same as last year)
Story of the World/Veritas Press Greek and Rome histroy cards along with Classic Myths to Read Aloud, Aesops Fables and a few other literaure books.
Modern Curriculem Press for Phonics and Spelling B (eh. not impressed with this it is new....and I didn't pick it.)
The Children's Story Bible/Veritas Press Bible Cards - Judges thru New Testament
Zaner-Bloser for handwriting
Apologia Science - Exploring Creation with Botany (this is with a new homeschooling group - not with our school)
For literature we are reading (for school)
Heidi
Black Beauty (emma's already read this! twice)
Boxcar Children Book 1 (we could do this in our sleep!)
Detectives in Togas, Nate the Great, Homer Price....and some other readers to go along with our history.
One of the many reasons that I chose our school, was because one of my childhood friends is a few steps ahead of me in her homeschooling journey and she introduced me to this school. Kellie and I go WAY WAY back. All the way back to sixth grade. Last Thursday we had our parent orientation where you spend a few hours with your child's teacher getting geared up for the year. As I was leaving E and C's classroom my sweet friend was in the hallway waiting with an armload of books for her kids. How fun is it that 25 years later we are STILL walking the halls of school with our arms loaded with books, notebooks and pencil boxes together? but now are carrying our kid's stuff!
Time sure flies when you are having fun!

okay... I feel smarter just READING the LIST of good stuff your kiddos will be doing this year! too fun... and I can't wait to see the new paint... I'm sure it is amazing. ~ kim
P.S. and I LOVE friends that stick around for years and years... precious.
